Yukon Business Nominee Program
The Yukon Business Nominee Program is designed for foreign entrepreneurs who want to establish or purchase a business and settle permanently in Yukon, Canada.
This program allows experienced business owners and managers to move to Yukon on a temporary work permit, operate and invest in their business, and later apply for permanent residence once the business is successfully established.
Applicants must demonstrate sufficient business experience, financial capacity, and a viable business proposal that supports Yukon’s economic priorities. Eligible candidates enter a selection pool and may be invited to proceed with further assessment, including an exploratory visit and interview.
The program focuses on businesses that contribute to key economic sectors such as technology, tourism, manufacturing, natural resources, and cultural industries.
The Yukon Business Nominee Program targets foreign entrepreneurs who want to start or purchase and actively manage a business in Yukon.
To qualify, applicants must demonstrate the ability to invest capital, manage a business in the territory, and settle permanently in Yukon with their families.
Key features of the program include:
Minimum 65 points required on the Yukon assessment grid
Minimum CAD $300,000 business investment in the first two years
Minimum CAD $500,000 personal net worth
Minimum CAD $300,000 in liquid assets
Business must operate in one of Yukon’s strategic economic sectors
If selected, the entrepreneur receives support for a two-year work permit to establish and operate the business. After meeting program requirements, Yukon may nominate the applicant for Canadian permanent residence.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply under the Yukon Business Nominee Program, applicants must meet both personal and business eligibility criteria.
Personal Eligibility
Applicants must:
Score at least 65 points on the Yukon Business Nominee Program assessment grid
Have at least a high school diploma or higher if required for the business
Have a minimum of 3 years of entrepreneurial or business management experience
Have at least 5 years of relevant work experience related to the proposed business
Demonstrate a minimum personal net worth of CAD $500,000
Show at least CAD $300,000 in liquid assets (such as cash, bonds, or similar financial assets)
Provide documentation proving assets were obtained legally and verified by a Yukon accounting firm
Intend to live permanently in Yukon
Agree to reside in Yukon with dependents while managing the business
Hold a management role in the business classified under TEER 0 or TEER 1
Not have an active refugee claim in Canada
Not have previously been refused Canadian immigration
Not have active applications under other provincial nominee programs
Not have already purchased or started the business in Yukon before applying
Commit to investing at least CAD $300,000 in capital investment within the first two years
Eligible capital investments may include equipment, property, and other business assets. Operational costs, personal housing, or personal vehicles are not considered qualifying investments.
Language Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate language ability of at least:
IELTS level 6 in English, or
TEF Canada level 4 in French
Language test results may also contribute points toward the assessment grid.
Business Eligibility
The proposed business must meet the following criteria:
The business must be a new venture or the purchase of an existing Yukon business
The entrepreneur must actively manage the business
The investment must not be passive
The business must operate within one of Yukon’s strategic sectors.
Eligible Strategic Sectors
Eligible businesses may operate in areas such as:
Information technology
Manufacturing
Value-added processing
Forestry
Tourism products, attractions, services, or facilities
Energy
Mining or mineral development
Agriculture
Cultural industries
Film and video production
Ineligible Business Activities
The following types of businesses are not eligible under the program:
Passive investment businesses
Retail or wholesale operations
Distribution businesses
Restaurants
Financial services
Personal or consulting services
Most professional services
Real estate businesses
Holding companies
Gas stations

Application Process
The Yukon Business Nominee Program follows a multi-stage selection process.
Step 1: Check Eligibility and Prepare a Business Concept
Applicants must ensure they meet all personal and business requirements and obtain at least 65 points on the program’s assessment grid.
A business proposal outlining the planned investment and economic benefits for Yukon must also be prepared.
Step 2: Submit the Application
Applicants must submit a complete and signed application to the Yukon government.

Step 3: Candidate Pool
Eligible applicants whose business concepts are approved enter a candidate pool for up to six months.
Meeting the minimum eligibility requirements and score does not guarantee selection.
Only candidates selected from the pool will proceed to the next stage.
Step 4: Business Plan Verification and Interview
Selected candidates must:
Submit documents verifying the information in their application
Provide a detailed business plan
Participate in an exploratory visit to Yukon
Attend an in-person interview with program officials
Step 5: Work Permit and Business Establishment
If the application is approved, the Yukon government will support the applicant in obtaining a two-year work permit from the federal government.
During this period, the entrepreneur must:
Move to Yukon with their family (if applicable)
Establish the proposed business
Invest the required capital
Operate and manage the business actively
Step 6: Permanent Residence Nomination
After successfully operating the business and meeting program requirements, Yukon may nominate the applicant for permanent residence.
The final permanent residence application is then submitted to the federal government.
