Labor Market Priorities Stream for Physicians

Summary:

The Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream for physicians selects physicians to apply for nomination through the federal Express Entry system. Only candidates with an approved offer from the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre who receive a Letter of Interest from Labour, Skills and Immigration (LSI) may apply. If you are accepted through this stream, you, your spouse, and your dependents may apply to the federal government for a permanent resident visa.

ELIGIBILITY

To apply you must:

 

  • have an approved opportunity from the NSHA or IWK as either a general practitioner and family physician (NOC 31102) or a specialist physician (NOC 31100 and NOC 31101);
  • provide a copy of a signed Return for Service Agreement with the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness indicating commitment to live and work in Nova Scotia for a minimum period of two years;
  • receive a Letter of Interest from the Nova Scotia Nominee Program within the Express Entry system;
  • submit your application within 30 calendar days of the date on which your Letter of Interest was issued;
  • meet the minimum work experience requirements of the Express Entry stream for which you have qualified;
  • demonstrate sufficient funds to successfully establish yourself and your family in Nova Scotia and to pay your immigration costs and travel expenses;
  • have legal status in your current country of residence.

Required supporting documents:

 

  • a copy of the Letter of Interest from the NSNP
    • proof of your approved job offer from the NSHA or IWK
    • a copy of your Return of Service Agreement with the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness
  • documents showing that you meet the minimum work experience requirements for one of these Express Entry streams:
    – Canadian Experience Class
    – Federal Skilled Worker Program
               
  • letters of reference from previous employers.
  • copies of certificates, diplomas, degrees or transcripts that prove that you meet all the criteria required to obtain a licence to practise medicine in Nova Scotia from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia, if you were educated or trained in Canada.
  • Provide the documents listed above AND a copy of your Educational credential assessment (ECA) report from the Medical Council of Canada, if you were educated or trained outside Canada.
  • the results of one of these language tests;
    – International English Language Testing System (IELTS) General Training
    – Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) General
                – Pearson Test of English (PTE) Core
                – Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) Canada
                – Test de connaissance du français (TCF) Canada
  • copies of biographical pages of passports of you, and everyone immigrating with you
  • a copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable)
    • a copy of a Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union (if applicable)
    • copies of birth certificates for dependent children (if applicable)
    • copies of custody documents for children younger than 19 (if applicable)
    • proof of permission allowing children under 19 to come with you to Canada (if applicable)
    • copies of adoption papers (if applicable)
  • a copy of proof of your legal status in Canada, If you currently live in Canada
  • a copy of proof of your legal status in your current country of residence if you currently live in a country of which you are not a citizen
  • Copies of every letter you have received from the Canadian government or any provincial or territorial government regarding each application, if you have applied to immigrate to Canada before
  • any temporary residence permits you have access to, if you have lived in Canada before
  • banking statements from the past 3 months showing all account
    balances and transaction history
    • statements from your investment portfolio showing fixed deposits
    and the terms for withdrawing funds before the investment matures (if applicable)

 

Application Procedure:

  • Create an express entry profile
  • Look for a Letter of Interest in the Express Entry online system
  • Apply to the Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities Stream for Physicians. IF you are nominated then
  • Apply to IRCC for Permanent Residence
  • Inform LSI when you become a Permanent Resident
