Summary:

The Morden Community Driven Immigration Initiative (MCDII) partners with the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) to actively recruit skilled workers who can fill local labour market needs in the city of Morden, Manitoba.

Morden is a growing community located 112 km southwest of Winnipeg, with a population of about 9,000 residents. Through MCDII, successful applicants and their families can obtain permanent resident status in Canada and settle in Morden.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

Morden works directly with local employers to identify targeted occupations. Candidates must have experience in one of the following:

  • Welders

  • Carpenters

  • Cooks

  • Plumbers/Pipefitters

Requirements for Welders & Carpenters

  • Age: 21–45 years old

  • No connections to other parts of Canada (no family, friends, work, or study ties outside of Morden)

  • Completed at least a 1-year post-secondary education/training program (diploma, certificate, or degree)

  • IELTS (General) minimum band score of 5 in each category

  • At least 2 years of recent work experience in welding or carpentry

  • Settlement funds as required by MPNP: $10,000 for the principal applicant + $2,000 per dependent (in addition to exploratory visit costs)

  • Genuine intention and ability to settle and integrate in Morden

Requirements for All Other Occupations

  • Age: 21–45 years old

  • No connections to other parts of Canada

  • Completed at least a 1-year post-secondary education/training program

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience within the past 5 years in the targeted occupation

  • Settlement funds as required by MPNP ($10,000 + $2,000 per dependent)

  • Must have an active Express Entry profile (CLB 7 and Educational Credential Assessment required)

  • Genuine intention to settle in Morden

Additional Notes:

  • Preference is given to candidates with prior rural living experience and adaptability to Manitoba’s climate and culture.

  • Selected candidates must complete an exploratory visit to Morden to attend an MPNP interview.

  • Applicants must not establish connections outside Morden before or during their application process, as this could affect community support.

Application Process – Step by Step

  1. Check Eligibility
    Review the requirements for your occupation category.

  2. Express Entry Profile

    • Required for all candidates except Welders and Carpenters.

  3. Submit Application
    Include the following:

    • Application form

    • Resume/CV (for applicant and spouse)

    • Copy of passport

    • IELTS results

    • Proof of settlement funds (bank statements or property evaluation)

  4. Exploratory Visit Invitation
    If selected, you will be invited to Morden for an exploratory visit.

  5. Exploratory Visit
    Research the community and attend an MPNP interview at the end of the visit.

  6. Invitation to Apply (MPNP)
    If deemed a good fit, you will receive an invitation to apply.

  7. Apply Online to MPNP
    Submit your application for provincial nomination.

  8. Nomination Letter
    If approved, you will receive a Nomination Letter from MPNP.

  9. Apply to IRCC
    Submit a permanent residence application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

  10. IRCC Review
    Includes medical exams and background checks.

  11. Permanent Residence Approval
    Once approved, you and your family can move to Morden, Manitoba as permanent residents.
