Graduate Internship Pathway

Summary:

The Graduate Internship Pathway offers a faster route to permanent residency for international student graduates in Manitoba. This pathway is designed for master’s and doctoral graduates who have contributed to industry innovation through internships.

If you completed a Mitacs Accelerate or Elevate internship (including Accelerate Entrepreneur) with an eligible Manitoba employer or research enterprise, you may apply to the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) immediately after graduation — even if you do not yet have a job offer.

Eligibility – Graduate Internship Pathway

CriterionMinimum Requirement
EducationMust have completed a master’s or doctoral degree program in Manitoba within the past 3 years.

Official Language Proficiency

Minimum CLB/NCLC 7 (or equivalent).
Internship in ManitobaCompletion of a Mitacs Accelerate or Elevate internship (including Accelerate Entrepreneur) with an eligible Manitoba industry or research enterprise.

Employment 

in Manitoba

No job offer is required at the time of application.
Settlement FundsMust show liquid funds equivalent to Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) for at least 6 months. OR must be employed in a full-time, long-term role in Manitoba.
AdaptabilityMust be living in Manitoba at the time of application and demonstrate intent to remain through a Career Employment Plan outlining long-term career goals in the province.

How to Apply

The application process for the Graduate Internship Pathway follows the same steps as other pathways under the Skilled Worker Stream and the International Education Stream (except for the International Student Entrepreneur Pilot).

  1. Create an Expression of Interest (EOI): Submit an online profile to the MPNP.

  2. Receive an LAA: If selected, you will receive a Letter of Advice to Apply (LAA).

  3. Submit Full Application: Provide complete documents for assessment by an MPNP officer.

  4. Receive Nomination: Successful applicants are issued a provincial nomination.

  5. Apply for Permanent Residence: Within 180 days of nomination, apply to the Government of Canada for permanent residence for yourself and your family.
