Farm Stream

Summary:

The Alberta Farm Stream is designed for experienced farmers with the financial capacity and management expertise to establish a new or purchase an existing farming business in Alberta. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient farm management skills, financial resources, and a viable business plan that aligns with Alberta’s agricultural industry requirements.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Farm Management Skills: Applicants must provide evidence of their farm management abilities, which may include:

    • Financial documentation of an existing farm business.
    • Proof of education, training, and work experience in farming.
    • A detailed business plan for the proposed farming enterprise in Alberta.
    • Confirmation from a Canadian financial institution willing to finance the proposed farming business.
  2. Financial Resources: Candidates must demonstrate the ability to invest a minimum of CAD $500,000 of equity into a primary production farming business in Alberta. Additionally, they must provide documents showing a minimum net worth of CAD $500,000 or evidence of access to similar funds from other sources. In some cases, applicants may be required to show the ability to invest more than the minimum amount.

  3. Primary Production Investment: The investment must be in a primary production farming business in Alberta. Applicants are required to submit a proposed business plan with their application, which will be reviewed by Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation to ensure it aligns with the province’s farming industry requirements. Priority is given to applications that present the best opportunities for growth relevant to Alberta’s agri-food targets.
