Express Entry FSW

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a primary pathway within Canada’s Express Entry system, targeting skilled professionals with foreign work experience who wish to immigrate to Canada permanently. The program assesses candidates based on factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability to ensure successful integration into the Canadian labor market.

Eligibility Criteria for the Federal Skilled Worker Program

To qualify for the FSWP, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Skilled Work Experience:

    • Have at least one year of continuous full-time (or equivalent part-time) paid work experience in the same occupation within the last ten years.
    • The work experience must be in occupations classified under TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
  2. Language Proficiency:

    • Demonstrate proficiency in English or French by achieving a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all four language abilities (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).
    • Language proficiency must be proven through approved language tests taken within the last two years.
  3. Education:

    • Possess a Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree, or
    • A completed foreign credential and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from a designated organization confirming its equivalence to a Canadian credential.
  4. Proof of Funds:

    • Demonstrate sufficient financial resources to support yourself and your family members upon arrival in Canada, unless you have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.
  5. Selection Factors:

    • Achieve a minimum of 67 points out of 100 on the FSWP selection grid, which evaluates factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, arranged employment, and adaptability.
  6. Residency Intent:

    • Plan to live outside the province of Quebec.
  7. Admissibility:

    • Meet Canada’s general admissibility requirements, including health and security checks.

Application Process for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

  1. Determine Eligibility:

    • Ensure you meet all FSWP eligibility criteria, including work experience, language proficiency, education, and proof of funds.
  2. Create an Express Entry Profile:

    • Submit an online profile through the IRCC Express Entry system, detailing your skills, work experience, education, and language test results.
    • Receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on your credentials.
  3. Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA):

    • Candidates with high CRS scores will receive an ITA during regular Express Entry draws.
    • An ITA is required to submit a complete permanent residence application.
  4. Submit a Complete Application for Permanent Residence (PR):

    • Once invited, submit all required forms, supporting documents, and fees within 60 days.
    • Documents include:
      • Proof of work experience
      • Education credentials and ECA report
      • Language test results
      • Proof of funds
      • Police clearance certificates and medical exams
  5. Await Processing:

    • Processing time is typically six months or less under Express Entry.
  6. Receive Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR):

    • If approved, applicants receive a COPR and can proceed to complete their landing process in Canada.
