Express Entry CEC

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a key component of Canada’s Express Entry immigration system, designed for individuals with recent Canadian work experience who wish to obtain permanent residency. This program recognizes the value of skilled workers who have already integrated into Canadian society and contributed to the economy.

Eligibility Criteria for the Canadian Experience Class

To qualify for the CEC, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Work Experience:

    • Have at least one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience in Canada within the last three years.
    • The work experience must be in occupations classified under TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
  2. Language Proficiency:

    • Demonstrate proficiency in English or French by achieving a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level:
      • CLB 7 for TEER 0 or 1 occupations.
      • CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3 occupations.
    • Language proficiency must be proven through approved language tests taken within the last two years.
  3. Education:

    • There is no specific education requirement for the CEC. However, candidates can improve their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score by:
      • Completing a Canadian educational credential, or
      • Obtaining an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign education.
  4. Residency Intent:

    • Plan to live outside the province of Quebec.
  5. Admissibility:

    • Meet Canada’s general admissibility requirements, including health and security checks.

Application Process for the Canadian Experience Class

  1. Determine Eligibility:

    • Ensure you meet all the eligibility criteria outlined above.
  2. Create an Express Entry Profile:

    • Submit an online profile through the IRCC’s Express Entry system, providing detailed information about your work experience, language proficiency, education, and other relevant factors.
  3. Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA):

    • Candidates with competitive Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores will receive an ITA during regular Express Entry draws.
  4. Submit a Complete Application:

    • After receiving an ITA, applicants have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency, including all supporting documents and fees.
  5. Await Processing:

    • The processing time for CEC applications is typically six months or less.
  6. Confirmation of Permanent Residency:

    • Upon approval, applicants will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and can proceed to complete the landing process to become permanent residents.

Benefits of the Canadian Experience Class

  • Fast Processing Times:

    • CEC applications are processed quickly, often within six months.
  • No Job Offer Required:

    • Applicants are not required to have a current job offer to be eligible.
  • Integration Advantage:

    • Having Canadian work experience and language proficiency increases the likelihood of successful integration into Canadian society.
