Express Entry
Summary:
Express Entry is Canada’s points-based immigration system for skilled workers. It manages applications for three economic immigration programs, offering a fast and efficient pathway to permanent residence. Eligible candidates are ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), with top applicants receiving invitations to apply.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is an online immigration system designed to attract skilled professionals who can contribute to Canada’s economy. It manages applications under three federal programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) – For candidates with work experience in professional occupations.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) – For skilled trade workers with experience in occupations such as electricians, welders, and construction managers.
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC) – For individuals with at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada.
How It Works
- Create a Profile: Candidates enter their details, including education, work experience, and language proficiency (English or French).
- Get a CRS Score: The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) assigns points based on factors such as age, education, language skills, and job offers.
- Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA): The highest-scoring candidates receive ITAs in regular draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
- Submit a Complete Application: Once invited, applicants have 60 days to submit all required documents, including proof of funds, medical exams, and police certificates.

CRS Score and How to Improve It
Your CRS score determines your chances of receiving an ITA. Points are awarded based on:
- Age: Younger candidates score higher.
- Education: Higher education levels earn more points.
- Language Proficiency: Strong English and/or French skills boost your score.
- Work Experience: Canadian experience is highly valued.
- Job Offer & Provincial Nomination: A job offer from a Canadian employer or a nomination from a province can add significant points.
Express Entry Processing Time
Most Express Entry applications are processed within 6 months from submission. However, factors like document verification and completeness may impact the timeline.
Express Entry Draws and Cut-Off Scores
The CRS cut-off score varies in each Express Entry draw. Staying updated on the latest draws helps in planning your application strategy.
