Career Employment Pathway

Summary:

The Career Employment Pathway under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) offers an accelerated route to permanent residency for recent graduates of Manitoba post-secondary institutions. It is designed for international students who secure long-term, full-time employment in an in-demand occupation related to their field of study.

Eligible graduates can apply to the MPNP immediately after completing their studies and obtaining a job offer.

Requirements for the Career Employment Pathway

Education

  • You must have graduated within the last 3 years from a designated post-secondary institution in Manitoba.

  • The program must have been full-time and at least 1 year (two semesters) in length.

Language Proficiency

  • Minimum CLB/NCLC 7 in English or French.

Current Employment in Manitoba

  • A full-time job offer from an eligible Manitoba employer with a minimum 1-year contract.

  • The job must be in an occupation on Manitoba’s In-Demand Occupations List and align with your completed Manitoba studies.

  • You must be working full-time in Manitoba with a valid work permit at the time your application is assessed.

Note: Manitoba degree-program graduates qualify if their job offer is in any TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation (formerly NOC 0, A, or B) listed as in-demand.

  • The MPNP may also impose program or occupation-specific limits.

Settlement Funds

  • You must show proof of liquid funds meeting the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) for at least 6 months, OR

  • Be employed in a full-time, long-term position in Manitoba.

Adaptability

  • You must be residing in Manitoba when applying.

  • You must demonstrate your intent to remain in the province after nomination, including submitting a Career Employment Plan outlining your career path in Manitoba.

Note: Some international graduates may be eligible for an 18-month Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) extension. Refer to IRCC updates for details.

Who Cannot Apply to the MPNP?

The following individuals are not eligible for the Career Employment Pathway:

  • Refugee claimants or those in federal appeal/removal processes.

  • Live-in Caregivers currently in Canada.

  • Temporary foreign workers living/working in other provinces.

  • Spouses of Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

  • Individuals refused by the MPNP within the past 6 months who have not addressed the reasons for refusal.

  • Applicants with an active immigration application in another provincial or federal immigration program (except for an Express Entry profile).

  • Individuals or spouses who already have an active MPNP application in any other stream or pathway.
